  • "An Act Concerning Postpartum Mental Health Education"

Senator Nancy Sullivan (D-York County) has submitted legislation to the Maine Senate to help combat postpartum depression.   LD 792 will require information and education on postpartum mental health issues to be provided to pregnant women and mothers during the first year after the baby's birth.  It also requires health care providers to screen mothers for postpartum issues for the first year after birth.  Information on postpartum depression will also be provided to fathers, spouses, and/or partners and family members.  The legislation is modeled after similar legislation enacted in Illinois and New Jersey.  Currently it does not have any fiscal impact.

Please help this bill get passed by calling, writing or e-mailing your senators and representatives, and ask them to support this bill to help new mothers and their families!  Please forward this to as many people as possible!
