Meeting Minutes

Date: September 17, 2007

Present: Peg Bradstreet, Lisa Goulet, Michelle Houser, Ellen Kunkle, Norma Marshall, Kathy O'Connor

  • The meeting was started with introductions and catching up on what had happened over the summer months.  Ellen Kunkle passed out copies of Birth Roots Resource Guide to each person present and we discussed how we can find funding to make one similar for our area.  We discussed the possibility of a state funded guide or even funding through Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield whom we believe funds a similar resource guide in Michigan.  We need to research this further.

  • Website work and updates will continued to be done by Michelle Houser and Kathy O'Connor will be monitoring the website emails.

  • We discussed the cost of creating the newsletter and we have decided to create only one or two for the year because of cost.  Ellen suggested Ruth's Renewable Resources in Portland as a possible option for paper.

  • We decided that we will post all meeting minutes on the website

  • Discussion about whether or not to be 501[c]3 or work under the umbrella group of Birth Roots.  No final decision was made.

  • Ellen updated us on the fact that Liz Gaudette's Support Group is now meeting at Portsmouth Hospital and doing well!

  • Peg Bradstreet updated us on committees that are forming and working on postpartum depression at Maine Med (as a result of the work being done for LD 792)

  • Norma Marshall updated the group about the fact that HomeHealth Visiting Nurses has nurses and some MSW's that go into the home to help postpartum mom's under The Maternal Child Health Grant but Maine Care isn't covering for these services.

  • Lisa Goulet updated us on her new business that is called "Mothering Moon".  She will be offering nursing and lactation support as an in-home service for mothers and will be on-call and will also do overnight shifts so that mom can get the sleep she needs.  I will post more about her services on this site in the near future.  Her website is www.motheringmoon.com

  • Our future meeting are scheduled for October 22, and December 17th.  We have decided to use November for individual committees to meet.  The fundraising committee will be meeting at HomeHealth in Saco on Novermber 12 from 9-11 to discuss a fund raising event.
